Does Barbie get Hot Flashes?

So Barbie is turning 50 today, and she doesn't look a day over 16, how does she do it, you might ask? Well it's easy when you 're made of molded rubber and have synthetic hair that never grays. But above and beyond that, Barbie simply refuses to grow up. She is perpetually an adolescent, she is suspended in youth for eternity.

I have no issue with this, I loved my dolls while I was growing up, and have collected Barbies for as long as I can remember. Many have tried to pin the ills of the modern day woman on her, and called her every bad name in the book. But not me. I am a faithful Barbie fanatic.

Today, however is a missed opportunity for the Mattel Corporation. Today could've been the day for the Limited Edition Menopausal Birthday Barbie.

I know it's on everyone's mind, “the BIG change.” Hot flashes, mood swings, and membership to the AARP. It's us old chicks that made her who she is today. So just for one day I would like to see Barbie dress her age, no ruffled mini skirts and go-go boots; no midriff tops and knee socks; and definitely no pink!

Is that too much to ask? I know, even Mattel execs have to make a living, and nothing sells like youth and sex, but just this once..... And don't even bring up that German Prime Minister Barbie, she looks nothing like the real person. Somehow Mattel was able to sex up and slim down an otherwise frumpy, and chunky old lady.

This rant may fall on deaf ears, but it's something to consider.

If not, how about a Recession Pretty Barbie, complete with food stamps, unemployment checks and a worthless stock portfolio? It's just a suggestion. Happy Birthday Barbie!
